Frequently Asked Questions

We know navigation simplified funding can be new. Here are answers to the most common questions we receive.

About Solven Foundation

Where does the funding come from?

We are 100% funded by a private circle of friends, family, and tech founders who pool their resources to support grassroots impact. We do not solicit donations from the general public.

Are you a registered charity?

Yes, we are a registered non-profit foundation. Our legal registration details can be found in our Transparency section.

Grant Eligibility

Do you fund individuals?

No. We only fund registered non-profit organizations or community groups that have a registered fiscal sponsor. This ensures accountability for all funds disbursed.

Which countries do you support?

We focus primarily on the Global South (Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America), but we are open to impactful projects anywhere where verified banking infrastructure exists.

Is there a minimum or maximum grant size?

Our typical "starter grant" is between $5,000 and $10,000 USD. Successful grantees are often invited to apply for larger "scaling grants" of up to $50,000 in subsequent cycles.

Application Timeline

When are applications open?

We accept applications on a rolling basis, year-round. However, we review them in quarterly cycles (Jan, April, July, Oct).

How long does a decision take?

Once the quarterly review period begins, we aim to provide a decision within 14 days. Verification may add another 7 days if documents are complex.

Verification Process

What documents do I need?

At a minimum: Proof of Government Registration, Bank Account details in the Organization's name (no personal accounts), and a simple budget breakdown.

Do you require a site visit?

Not usually for the first grant. We rely on digital verification, impact photos, and references from trusted partners.

Impact & Reporting

What reporting is required?

We keep it simple. A 1-2 page PDF report and 5-10 high-quality photos of the project progress, submitted 6 months after receiving funds.

Legal & Tax

Is my grant taxable?

This depends on your local jurisdictions. We provide the grant as a charitable donation. You are responsible for complying with your local tax laws regarding foreign funding.
